Interesting Facts About H.M.S.
The building that houses Haverstraw Middle School was erected in 1935 as a project of the Federal Emergency Administration of Public Works. Originally the building was a K-12 school replacing the old Haverstraw High School that was destroyed by fire. The elementary grades were eventually moved to other buildings and the high school remained here until 1969 when the new North Rockland High School opened on Hammond Road in Thiells. In 1969 the building was officially renamed the Haverstraw Middle School and today enrolls approximately 900 students in grades 5, 6, 7, and 8.
